Happy Tuesday!
Another great day. We warmed up this morning with an introduction to multiplication and creating equal groups when we multiply. The boys learned the strategy of arrays, and how they are used in real life to count items. We played a game called Array Capture where the boys practiced creating a variety of sizes or arrays based on the number they were rolling with their dice. The winner was the one to capture more of the playing board. We continued reading our novel study, Ivan the Great this morning as well. We were introduced to a new character, Ruby, and the boys have some interesting ideas of her connections to our already established main characters. Stay tuned... This afternoon, after Daily Five, we created opaque shadow art. Take a look in our hallway when you get a chance! Finally, the boys ended the day with some Epic reading of book writing on Writereader.com. How did I grow today? - Today we made tin foil shadow art - In gym we got straight to games!! - We read more of Ivan! - We went on Epic to read books - The game we played in gym was called Crab Attack and Crab Soccer - I drew pictures! - We learned multiplication and the strategy of arrays Mrs. Carter First of all....sorry for being MIA with our blog lately. The last couple of weeks have been busy days and our routines were a little off for the end of the day. Back on track we go!!
Today was a great, productive day. We started the day with some sharing that didn't get to take place on Thursday. In Math, we played our addition and subtraction board games that we created last week! It was fun watching the boys so excited to share their equations with eachother. These will be kept in our Math duotangs for future me time in Math! Tomorrow....we are starting multiplication. In Language Arts today, we looked at works with a long A sound in them, and the variety of ways to make long A (ay, ai, etc. ). When the boys were done their work, they took some time to build words out of plasticine and guess what letters were missing from their created words. This afternoon, we spent some time playing with a website called Twistedwave.com. In Science, we have been taking about vibrations create sound waves and those sound waves are what we hear. This website allowed us some time to play with saying things in different ways and seeing what the waves would look like! And that takes us to the end of the day! Well done, boys. For a Monday, after a long weekend, that one was great! How did I grow today? - Today we went on a website called TwistedWaves.com - We were sharing some personal items from home today (because we didn't get to on Thursday) - Today we played a game called Spaghetti and Meatballs in gym - We got a whole bunch of new gym equipment like ringette sticks, pickle ball sticks, hockey gear, etc. - I made my helmet during me time - Also in gym we got shot put and discuss - In Math we played eachother's Math games Mrs. Carter How did I grow?
- We made animals for our Alberta regions - We got a new duo-tang, black, for our Humanities - We started a new novel study - We searched the classroom to find our math questions - Our classmate brought his curling stuff to share in gym Happy Monday!
I think we were all a bit sleepy today but we plugged through and were able to complete quite a few tasks. This morning the boys took a pause from their writing process and learned yet another form of figurative language - alliteration. Ask you son if they can remember what it means. We created very interesting ice cream flavours with them. In Math, we did a crack the code subtraction...the answer was 'A Slug Has Four Noses'. You learn something new everyday! This afternoon, we took a peak at our Bio-dome grow tower...some really great stuff is already happening to our seeds!! We journaled what we saw. In Social studies, we researched animals from our region of Alberta and, after completing a worksheet about their adaptations, we were allowed to do an Art-Hub drawing of our animals. Tomorrow, we will create animals in our regions and put them into our salt-dough landscapes. Phew...that was a busy day! How did I grow? - Today we did alliteration ice cream cone flavours - We were researching animals in our regions - We did our Math Crack the code subtraction - We did curling in gym - We looked at our plants in the grow tower This week has flown by! We have worked on subtraction with regrouping, a secret writing mission for our Friday learning celebration and creating our tower garden in the Bio-Dome. Things are going well! Please join us tomorrow (Friday) around 11 for our celebration of learning. A hint...this week's celebration is surrounded about an extra special writing topic. :)

Wait....where did that week go?
Sorry for our delay in Blogging....it has flown by. Here is a snapshot of our week and what we worked hard on! Tuesday, we worked with our worm expert, Mr. M. He taught us all about vermi-composting and how to take care of our own worm bin! We now have worm experts as a weekly job and will start to collect some interesting data along the journey of our worms creating great soil! On Wednesday, we had Ms. Jessica come in and speak to us about our distracted brains and how we can use strategies to get ourselves back on task. We completed our Genius hour projects to present to the class this coming Tuesday. Thursday was our Amazing Race Zoo day!! We learned about the animals in the Canadian Wild through our Zoo expert Ms. Jenn. The rest of the day was roadblocks and detours around the Zoo gathering information to bring back into our Science and Math classes. We will continue to work with this data in the coming weeks. Today, we finished up some loose ends from this busy week. If you see a red duotang in your son's backpack, it means they have their word study work to complete! Please have a look and ensure it is done for Tuesday. We completed our Genius hour presentations and our novel study bingo on Inkling. Finally, we had our Remembrance Day ceremony today and the boys took some time to reflect on What Remembrance Day means to me in their visual journals. I hope they will each take a moment to reflect on Monday. Thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who helped out at the zoo yesterday!! I appreciate you both being there to support our learning journey. Have a wonderful long weekend. No school Monday, November 11th. See you Tuesday the 12th. Mrs Carter |
